Can you explain what Level Vision™ does?
ANDRITZ Herr-Voss Stamco Inc. and IMS Messsysteme GMBH (IMS) have co-developed a flatness measuring system with closed loop leveler control that uses advanced optical and laser technology for use with ANDRITZ Herr Voss Stamco Inc. coil processing equipment.
Level Vision™ has been designed to improve the quality of the material being processed, provide more consistent leveling results and reduce scrap loss. Level Vision™ measures, corrects and quantifies flatness defects in ferrous and non-ferrous flat rolled strip independent of strip finishes.
Level Vision™ precision and affordability make it a valuable addition in meeting today’s service center ever increasing quality requirements.
How does it work?
A camera system and laser line unit are contained within common aluminum housing and connected to a control box mounted near the measuring equipment. The system is light weight, modular in design and can be applied with minimal space requirements. Another laser system is mounted at the leveler for measuring coil set. All flatness information is sent to a HMI located at the main operator’s station to show topographical flatness information as well as to the ANDRITZ Herr-Voss Stamco Inc. closed loop control system.
Why did you team up with IMS?
After extensive review of different technologies, we chose IMS for their innovative solutions and the technical expertise of their staff. Their use of modern technology and extensive flatness measuring experience combined with ANDRITZ Herr-Voss Stamco’s portfolio of levelers has resulted in a product that provides reliable measuring systems and control which makes our customers more competitive.
What kind of processing lines does it work on?
It is designed to work with ANDRITZ Herr-Voss Stamco levelers in Cut-to Length and Multi-Blank lines. It can be applied to other applications as well.
What types of materials does it work on?
Level Vision™ works with ferrous and non-ferrous material with bright or dull finish surfaces independent of strip thickness and speed.
How is it different and why is it better than the other flatness systems available on the market?
Level Vision™ utilizes the most innovative camera imaging technology in the world today. It is the only system on the market which will measure flatness, correct for complex shape defects and coil set as one fully integrated product complete with quantitative report generation.
Does it produce data that certifies material flatness?
Yes. Flatness data is continuously collected as material passes under the measurement. A report is then made available for each individual sheet within the pack showing the I-Units of flatness as well as calibration data, if required. The flatness data can also be stored on storage media (hard drive). This data can also be exported as .xls (Excel files) and .csv files (Text files).
How much does it cost?
The cost is primarily dependent on two factors: maximum strip width of the material to be measured, and the vintage of the existing control on the leveler.
Each application will need to be evaluated.
Is it for new installations or can I use it on my existing leveler?
Level Vision™ is designed to be applied as a retrofit to an existing installation even with limited space availability or as part of a new installation.
